Based in the Washington, DC area, Terese Winslow has worked as a freelance medical and scientific illustrator for over twenty years. Her art has appeared in textbooks, journals, and reports intended for both general and specialized audiences.
Representative assignments include serving as chief illustrator for the National Institutes of Health Stem Cell Report 2001 and 2006 editions; illustrations for Scientific American on such topics as genetic sequencing, virotherapy and RNA interference; and the influential "Evolutions" series published by the Journal of NIH Research.
Terese received her Master of Arts in Medical and Biological Illustration from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is a member of the Association of Medical Illustrators and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.
Awards include Communication Arts, Award of Excellence, Interactive Design Annual, 1995; Society for Technical Communication, Best of Show, 1990; and International Competition of the Society of Technical Communication, Award of Excellence, 1990.
The illustration of the HIV virion shown on this page originally appeared on the cover of Science, and was chosen to be included in the 1998 Molecular Graphics Art Show at the Reuben H. Fleet Space Theatre and Science Center in San Diego, California.
