This illustration was created for the cover of the third edition of the book, "Molecular Genetics of Bacteria" and was recently published by the American Society for Microbiology. The photo inset shows the cell division protein FtsZ (green) in growing Bacillus subtilis cells. In the illustration, a series of ribosomes translate a single RNA strand and create multiple copies of the FtsZ protein.
